Senor Nice: Strange Life from Wales to South AmericaInfamous drugs smuggler Howard Marks turns his hand to crime fiction - The Daily Record: "INTERNATIONAL drug smuggler Howard Marks has managed to stay on the straight and narrow by reinventing himself as a crime fiction writer.
The loveable Welsh rogue - immortalised in his autobiography Mr Nice and the movie adaptation starring Rhys Ifans - is about to launch a new ca reer as a novelist.
Anxious to make it crystal clear that his debut novel, Sympathy For The Devil, is not just another Mr Nice, he chose as his protagonist someone as far removed from himself as possible: a policewoman.
And he admits he could never have penned the legendary autobiography now, thanks to the tightening of laws on profiting from crime.
Howard, 65, said: 'The film has not inspired me to get more involved in movies but it has cer tainly given me the taste for more writing."
